IU Dorm Room

August 23rd, 2007 by admin

It’s the real deal people. Keycard access, semi-private (will be private next semester) full bath. A/C and heating from 55F-80F. Basically, IU’s awesome. These are photos from the first day right after move-in. I’m gonna head to Kirkwood tomorrow and get some more stuff for the room, so I’m planning on two batches of pics. A before-and-after if you will. Enough blabbing, here’s the goodies.

Umphrey’s McGee Concert

April 7th, 2007 by admin

Hooooooly shit! I didn’t know much about the band prior to the concert, but they’re an instant favorite. Earlier today - yesterday, I guess (Friday) - I went down to the Egyptian Room at the Murat Theater. Crazy stuff.

Here’s some photos of the event. I uploaded them to My Gallery.

Announcement: Trebuchet II

March 30th, 2007 by admin

Ok, the plans are moving, and the guys at Draco Inc (myself included, of course) will be building another trebuchet this spring. We already have a basic plan lined out - a vast improvement over Take 1. I’m not talking about the plans per say, I’m talking about having plans.

MAYBE that’s why the other trebuchet didn’t work out too well. It was meant as a scale model anyway. We’re going to try to draft up some schematics, or at least some diagrams, of the future seige weapon, and I promise to post them once they’re up. However, for now, please check out the Finnish Trebuchet made by a group Finnish People up in Finland. And no, that wasn’t unnecessary. Anyway, they’ve been really helpful in emails. Essentially, our model will be a smaller, scaled-down model of theirs. Our previous design resembled the Finnish variety slightly, but it didn’t have the lateral support beams.

That’s it for now. I’ll be sure to upload some pics of the old one as soon as I get my hands on ‘em, and I’ll scan a few diagrams as well later.

Lots and Lots of Cat5

March 13th, 2007 by admin

Lately Steam’s been giving my wifi card a hell of a time. Combine that with spotty performance in the first place, and you get a trip to Fry’s and 328ft of Ca5e cable.

As yet another home project, I’m going to string some cat5e cable from my modem, down through a hole in the floor, across the basement ceiling in the rafters, up through the laundry chute (I love old houses), across the attic, down through my closet wall, and out through an old satellite tv cable plate in the wall. Easier said than done, right?

Tonight I finished stringing it across the basement and up to the modem. The attic is tomorrow’s project; I’ll keep you posted.

New Comp!

January 29th, 2007 by admin

WooHOO! Holy god I’ve finally done it. I have no idea how long I’ve kept telling myself that I’d build a computer someday; well ladies and gents, that day’s here. er.. was here, 2 days ago. All the comp parts arrived in the mail by the 28th, and that night the new beast was finally completed. I’m busy transferring data at the moment, but once that’s done I’ll do a proper update here… promise!

The photo’s sideways and huge, but, at least you’ll get a glimpse of the behemoth. CLICKY FOR PHOTO

Got One!!!

Woooo! I finally got a nintendo wii! I’m actually writing this post on the wii browser (hence no photo). As fun as this is… I’m off to play Twilight Princess. Cheers!

Metalocalypse

January 3rd, 2007 by admin

Sweet Jesus. Without a doubt, this show ROCKS! I’ve never seen such a well-made satire on the entire metal genre. I just caught an episode on Adult Swim, a.k.a. Cartoon Network. (Fullmetal Alchemist’s on now… time to switch channels.) Back to the point, this show perfectly sums up Dragonforce, Pantera, Symphony X, Angra, Slayer, Megadeth: All in the form of the Best Group Ever -> DeathClock. While I won’t provide links to episodes, I can imagine YouTube probably has a few. But! I will give you guys the Adult Swim Metalocalypse Site and, of course, the Wikipedia Article. Even if you don’t like metal - on second thought, especially if you don’t like metal - give Metalocalypse a shot; I promise, you’ll love it!

Killing People is Rude!

December 30th, 2006 by admin

I was on the way to dinner with my bro and parents tonight (after the Shedd… See previous post) and saw this on the street. Well, to be honest, I saw it yesterday, but I didn’t have a camera on me. Stupid, I know.

I love this. I have no idea who put it there or how long it’s been spraypainted on the street. However, I want someone to do the same back home. Actually, better off in Gary; they really need that.

Shedd Aquarium

December 30th, 2006 by admin

I went to the Shedd Aquarium today, among other places. I only had my little w50 with me, but it worked like a charm! :D One of my favorite photos from the trip has nothing to do with aquariums… or fish, for that matter. It’s the one just to the left. I was looking at the cage this little critter was in to see if there was another hiding somewhere and all of a sudden saw this kid walk up to the other side of the cage. He took a while to spot the guy (the background of the cage hid him pretty well) but once he did his eyes widened and he assumed the expression he has in the photo. I took the shot as fast as I could praying for little or no blur, and it took. There’s a really, really, really fat baby in the background on the right window, which I cropped out. I’ll be sure to upload a photo of the baby, that one’s pretty funny too!

But apart from the iguana, Shedd was AWESOME! It really makes me want to start up a saltwater tank in my room. I’ve been thinking of that for quite some time and maybe I’ve found the excuse to start! Ugh, that’s so much money though. I’ll check out some classifieds…

The hotel’s great and I’m about to head down to the lobby and get some toothpaste… I packed in a hurry. Cheers!

Off to Chicago!

December 26th, 2006 by admin

We’ll be heading off to Chicago on the 28th to celebrate the holidays and New Years. I’m really hoping to get some excellent photos while I’m up there, as city scapes are quickly becoming my favorite area of photography.

I’ll be sure to make a post while I’m there. Our hotel has internet, and it better not be one of those subscription contracts!
