FF Addon: Video DownloadHelper

by me on Dec.20, 2009, under Uncategorized

Thanks to StumbleUpon, I found a really cool FireFox addon today: The Video Download Helper. This little gem lets you download video files (in .flv format, you can change format with something like Handbrake) from video streams. Works with YouTube and the Onion News Network… those two pretty much comprise all streaming vids that I would want to download.

Enjoy :)

Warning: Parking Idiots

by me on Dec.18, 2009, under What?

So after someone parked in front of my parents driveway (And we successfully got it towed!! :D ) in Indy, I remembered a couple of sites that I’ve come across and loved, but haven’t actually had the balls to do. I want to share ‘em with anyone who actually reads this site (Thanks Ellyn!!).

First off: I Park Like an Idiot

This site sells these bumper stickers (Yes - they’re actual bumper stickers, so whoever is unlucky enough to get one is going to have some work to do) that you put on someone’s car whenever you find a situation that applies to both A) Parking and B) Idiots. As much as I’d love to say that I’ve purchased these and used ‘em, sadly I can’t. Although I’m really temped to buy a pack.

Second site is: You Park Like an Asshole

This one has downloadable content you can print on your own (read: Free). Some can look like parking tickets. This, I could definitely use at IU.

No ones uses AIM anymore…

by admin on Dec.09, 2009, under Uncategorized

It seems like like I have probably… 4 people that i consistently talk to on aim. Used to be rare that I would have less than 10 tabs open :(

Is this what happens when you get older than 15 years? Lame. I wanna go back. I downloaded Pidgin (awesome client) and I was so excited to use it… but then I remembered no one else uses aim :P

Google Wave Invites. Want some?

by admin on Nov.26, 2009, under Tech

Currently I’ve got 8 Google Wave invites left. It seems like a pretty cool program, although I haven’t used it extensively… or at all… yet. But yeah leave a comment if you want one.

Looks like Verizon finally cracked.

by admin on Nov.14, 2009, under Uncategorized

Looks like VZ finally caved under pressure and released the hold on the BB 8330 GPS :D

I CAN FIND MY CAR NOW!

EDIT: Apparently OS4.5 isn’t fully compatable with the google suite. So I’m torn between GPS and Email. I think Email wins this round. Downgrade time :(

Foobar2000 & Milkdrop2.1

by admin on Jun.02, 2009, under Tech

Since I got my laptop back from HP for repairs I’ve had to reinstall all my software… Incredibly annoying, but its a good opportunity to explain how to integrate foobar2000 with the new milkdrop2. For some reason, a lot of people (myself included) had a lot of trouble getting this combo working. I’ve tried explaining it to friends, but I couldn’t give a step-by-step. I highly recommend this combo ’cause fb2k takes barely any system resources, unlike WinAmp and its horrible apple counterpart iTunes. Plus, iPods work SO much easier with foobar than with iTunes. Here’s how I did it:

  1. Install Foobar2000.
  2. Install WinAmp (Ok, I know that might seem weird.. but it’s a hell of a lot easier than installing the Milkdrop2 visualization itself, since it comes packaged with WinAmp)
  3. Install Shpeck (Which automatically finds Milkdrop2 in WinAmp’s install directory… hence installing WinAmp in the first place.
  4. Enjoy.

Installing Foobar2000 and WinAmp should be self explanatory. But with Shpeck, you’ll notice a .dll file. Place this file in the components folderin foobar’s install directory. As in: C:\Program Files\foobar2000\components\foo_vis_shpeck.dll

EDIT: With Windows 7, I had to go in the shpeck preferences and change the directory from C:/Program Files/winanp to C:/Program Files(x86)/winanp

This will also work with CollumsUI, although foobar made the default user interface must nicer/easier to customize than it used to be. To watch your new milkdrop installation, just go to View -> Visualizations -> Shpeck-Start Milkdrop2.1

But why use foobar in the first place?

  • Foobar uses less system resources than anything else (computer runs a lot faster)
  • User-created addons (addons for ANYTHING, including iPods)
  • Scans 100+ gig libraries instantaneously… no more waiting 2 hours for WinAmp or - god forbid - iTunes to look through your library.
  • Way Cooler.

Hope that helps!
